Evergreen Health Stores was announced as the winner of the Eco-Friendly Business Award at September 27th's JCI Galway Friendly Business Awards for our environmentally friendly attitude to business as well as our support and promotion of such products. Not only this, but we also came out tops as the overall winner at the awards and the official title holder of "Galway's Friendliest Business", as nominated by the public and selected by a panel of judges in association with the Galway Advertiser. We would like to thank everyone who voted, we pride ourselves on our customer service and it's great to get rewarded for our efforts!

Composer John Levine, holds free talks and consultations at Evergreen

Music can affect us in many ways and by harnessing music’s emotive power, Composer John Levine has developed a series of music compositions aimed to induce alpha brainwaves called ‘Alphamusic’. When the mind is in an alpha state, the body can function better and this can help significantly improve healing, sleep patterns, the immune system, concentration and emotional well-being. John Levine has been creating original music and playing piano since he was six. Since he graduated as a composer from Sydney University, he has spent several successful years in commercial music, working with bands like INXS and Midnight Oil and writing jingles for Saatchi and Saatchi and the Coca-Cola Company. But he always pursued his belief in meditation and the healing properties of music, which lead to his success in creating Alphamusic. Patrick Holford, the world-renowned nutrition expert, personally endorses John Levine’s Alphamusic. Since the launch of his first release, ‘Silence of Peace’, eight years ago, hundreds of thousands of John Levine’s Alphamusic CDs have been sold worldwide. As part of his Irish tour, John will bring his ‘Lift Your Spirits out of Depression’ talk to Galway at Evergreen, Galway Shopping Centre on Monday Sept. 17th from 1.30-7:00pm and Evergreen, Mainguard St. on Tuesday Sept. 18th from 9.30am-1:00pm. John will be available during these times for one-to-one consultations in stores, with no appointment necessary, and both events are free.
Speaking ahead of the in-store events, Evergreen owner Aideen Hurley said: “Evergreen stores have been stocking John Levine’s Alphamusic CDs for many years with great feedback from our customers on how his music has affected them in a positive way, so we are delighted John is coming in person giving people the opportunity to learn more about this technique”. On his Galway visit, John Levine aims to provide people attending with tools to help them improve mood. During each talk, he gives 10 tips which include: ‘manage your brainwaves’, ‘get your daily dose of delta sleep’ and ‘deal with your dark emotions’.

Evergreen Wins Ulster Bank Business Achievers Award!

Last week was a great week for us here at Evergreen as it saw us win the award for Best Family Run Business in Connacht at the Ulster Bank Business Achiever Awards 2011.
The presentation was made at a luncheon on Wednesday, 1st February at the Clayton Hotel Galway. Kieran Hurley accepted the award on behalf of the company and was both surprised and proud that we were selected as the Connacht Winners!
We now go forward to the National Awards which take place on 19th April at the Mansion House Dublin. The next round of judging takes place soon, so here's hoping it goes well for us.

Evergreen Healthfoods are proud to present 'Health from the Sea' a Seaweed Cooking Demonstration with Dr. Prannie Rhatigan. The event takes place on Tuesday, 25th October at 7:30pm in The Forge Bar, Moycullen.
Prannie Rhatigan is a medical doctor who has been harvesting & cooking with seaweed since childhood. Born & raised in Sligo, she published her first cookbook 'Irish Seaweed Kitchen' in 2009. It has since become the ultimate bible for cooking with seaweeds. She will demonstrate a selection of recipes from her book while also talking about the health benefits of seaweed.
Prannie holds an Hons degree in Psychology from NUI Galway & is also an experienced GP. A member of Slow Food, Prannie has represented Ireland’s finest abroad on several occasions & regularly gives lectures & workshops on seaweeds & cooking. She has also made many TV appearances talking about the Blood Type Diet.
Admission will be €5 on the door with all proceeds going to the RNLI Galway Lifeboats.
The event takes place upstairs at The Forge Bar Moycullen at 7:30pm.

Barna Open Day Event - Tues 18th Oct

Evergreen Healthfoods are next week hosting a special event to mark eight years of business at their Barna store. The company’s Open Day Event takes place on Tuesday, October 18th from 2-6pm
This is the sixth year of the event at the Barna store, but this year Evergreen have a special focus on Irish foods. Local producers will be on hand to showcase their foods while allowing customers a unique opportunity to sample the fare and talk to the people behind the products.
Local Irish producers who will be available on the day include Spanish Point Sea Vegetables from Clare, Donegal Rapeseed Oil and Galway Based Ireland’s Raw Kitchen. Hilary from Ireland’s Raw Kitchen is launching her new range in store on the day and will be doing demonstrations on Raw Food. There will also be food samplings right across the store, giving you a chance to taste and sample the fine organic foods available.
This year’s event will also showcase the natural skincare and beauty products available from Evergreen, with customers on the day able to avail of FREE Dr. Hauschka mini-facials. A limited number of appointments can be pre-booked with the staff at Barna, so if you wish to guarantee your treatment, call the staff now on 091 867875.
The Open Day presents an ideal opportunity for members of the public and customers alike to learn more about Evergreen’s products in a relaxed, informal setting. People can take the time to browse & chat to industry representatives & staff. Representatives from other top health store brands will also be present on the day. Meet the man behind the Alphamusic CDs - composer John Levine.
John will be answering questions in store on how his invention, Alphamusic, works as well as playing samples and autographing some of the beautiful, evocative and relaxing CDs. These CDs have helped thousands of people worldwide to conquer their sleep problems, stress, anxiety and other health major issues.
John Levine is both composer and pianist for all his recordings, using a Steinway piano. He is a classically trained composer from Australia and his work is based on knowledge of the centuries-old pentatonic and Lydian scales. John originally trained as an electronic engineer and has studied the psychology of music and the physiology of hearing. The unique sound pictures he paints bring you to alpha state within 4 minutes.

Cookery Demonstration with Dale Pinnock - Tuesday, 3rd May

We are hosting a cookery demonstration with a difference this Tuesday, 3rd May in the Forge Bar Moycullen. In association with CROI, Evergreen are bringing the concept of Medicinal Cooking to Galway with a demonstration by the UK’s first Medicinal Chef, Dale Pinnock.
Fresh from his appearances on RTE1’s Four Live programme, Dale is using this once off cookery demonstration to showcase his unique work in the area of prescriptive "medicinal cookery". Trained in both Nutrition and Herbal Medicine, Dale also worked as a wholefoods chef while studying.His particular passion is providing a scientific basis to natural healthcare. This combined experience has led to him working in the way that he does.
Dale will also be signing copies of his new book ‘Medicinal Cookery: How you can benefit from nature’s edible pharmacy.’
The event takes place next Tuesday, 3rd May at the Forge Bar Moycullen at 7:30pm. Admission on the night is €5, with all door proceeds going to West of Ireland Heart Charity, CROI.

Rude Health Week

Today (15th February) sees the commencement of the first annual "Rude Health Week", a national campaign by the Irish Association of Health Stores (IAHS) which aims to promote local independent health food stores. The week runs until Saturday 20th February. Health food stores across the country (including Evergreen) will be enticing new and existing customers with a range of interesting events and promotion.
This week long national promotion presents an ideal opportunity for you to give your health a Rude Awakening. The aim of the national campaign is to showcase the health food store and all it contains, and remind people to take an active part in their own health.
Locally, Evergreen Healthfoods have a packed week planned for its loyal Galway following. Each of the five Evergreen stores will take part in the nationwide promotion with events and special offers happening across the week.
The in store events include food tastings, cookery demonstrations, massage treatments and make-up applications. On selected days in selected stores there will also be an opportunity for one-to-one customer consultations with several top industry representatives.
