Factors Essential for Brain Health
I would like to share with you, the four factors I consider to be essential for brain health, building stronger connections in the brain and helping to reduce brain deterioration.
There are an estimated 200,000 diabetics in Ireland today. The fact that we, the Irish public, are eating too much sugar is well known. What is less well known is that too much sugar in the diet has a massive impact on your brain capacity and mental health. Alzheimer’s disease is now being referred to as “Diabetes type 3”. The reason for this, is that excess insulin interferes with receptors in the brain, causing deterioration and the formation of senile plaques. If you can change one thing about your diet, I urge you to cut down dramatically on sugar, it will benefit you now and in the future.
Nourish your Brain:
For optimum health, your brain requires omega-3 fish oils, lecithin and B vitamins. Omega-3 improves communication between brain cells which can lead to sharper thinking and quicker reactions. Lecithin, which comes in granules or tablet form, contains two components called choline and inositol. These components help regenerate and revive brain cells. B vitamins play a big part in nerve balance and mood stabilisation. When B vitamins are taken in combination with fish oils and lecithin this can massively improve memory, mood and alertness.
Follow your Gut:
The health of your gut and your brain are closely linked. An amino acid supplement called L-glutamine works for both brain and gut health. If taken first thing in the morning, it can support energy levels throughout the day. It also helps to keep the gut lining in good working order, which enhances your absorbability of the fats, phospholipids and vitamins that your brain needs. It also has calming properties of its own. Many of my customer’s report feeling calmer and more able to deal with pressure on the days when it is taken.
A toxic person often suffers from brain fog and confusion. A pleasant and effective way to detoxify the body and mind is to have regular baths using Epsom salts. Epsom salts draw toxins out through the skin. The high magnesium contained within the salts can help the bather to feel more relaxed. This will also help you to sleep better, and nothing makes you sharper than a great night’s sleep!
