Summer Hair

Trying to tame the mane at this time of year can be quite stressful. Especially when the heat and humidity can cause havoc for those of us with curly hair! Also the unforeseeable and dramatic changes from hot summer days to rainy humid days can cause us to sweat even more! This can irritate our scalp and/or dry out our hair. So looking after our scalp and hair during Summer is essential.

For those of us blessed with curly, textured and dry hair, like me, you've probably tried all of the products on the market. But here are a few of my favourite natural hair care products that can help 'tame the mane'.

Faith in Nature Jojoba Shampoo & Conditioner

This range of shampoos and conditioners are SLS, paraben & phthalate free. Therefore are clean and don't leave residue on your hair which in turn leaves your hair fresher, cleaner and more hydrated. Jojoba oil itself is renowned for it's ability to heal and hydrate therefore in a shampoo or conditioner it can leave dry hair feeling nourished and hydrated.

Insight Hair Mask - Anti Frizz

This luxurious hair mask is a great to keep hair from drying out especially in the sunshine. It can be used as a treatment once or twice a week and leave in for approx 8-10 mins before rinsing. I find it leaves my hair much more manageable and less frizzy.

Trilogy Everything Balm

The Trilogy Everything Balm really can be used for just about everything. If your hair gets dry and fly away then you can take a small pea size amount and warm in the palm of your hands. then apply from the mids to ends of the hair. This helps to keep your style and prevent your hair from getting unruly.

Dessert Essence Coconut Curls - Leave in Conditioner

With dry, textured or damaged hair often I recommend a leave in conditioner especially during the summer months as it offers extra protection against heat damage, fly away or frizzy hair. It makes styling and blow-drying much easier and causes less long-term damage to the hair itself.

Coconut Oil

This is the same raw organic coconut oil that you would find in your kitchen. Scoop out a tsp of coconut oil melt in the warmth of your hands and start to massage the oil into the scalp using your fingertips.

Next warm a towel in the dryer and once warm wrap around your head. Allow the oil to soak into the scalp for 20mins then shampoo and conditioner like usual. This treatment can be used all year round. Especially if you have a tendency towards dry, itchy or flaky scalp.
