There are a wide range of vitamins which have been rumoured to help boost energy and increase or even induce weight loss, alongside an array of other supposed benefits.

But which of these vitamins truly have the results to back up the hype? Here’s our guide to the best vitamins for shedding the pounds and keeping your energy levels high.

Vitamin E

This immensely useful vitamin enables you to get more out of your workouts. The properties of Vitamin E help improve muscle recovery and boost energy. Whilst some superfoods include good levels of Vitamin E, it’s handy to have it in tablet form for the days when your diet can’t be tailored to include enough of it.

Vitamin D

Although Vitamin D is naturally contained in some foods such as eggs, shiitake mushrooms and sardines, it is far easier for the body to absorb from supplements. However, evidence indicates that the synthesis of this vitamin in the skin through sun exposure is the main natural source of intake for humans. When synthesised, Vitamin D3 (known as cholecalciferol) is produced in the body and studies have shown that this vitamin actively increases the metabolism in obese or overweight people, which enhances the beneficial effects of a low-calorie diet.

Often grouped with the B-complex vitamins, Choline is technically a water-soluble nutrient. It works especially well in tandem with a regular, thorough exercise regime, as Choline’s properties make it excellent at helping you burn fat during physical activity. Similar to Vitamin B3, Choline has been shown to benefit many people that are looking to lose weight.

Studies show that diets which are high in calcium have a much lower rate of overweight or obese individuals than other diets. Whilst weight loss is a major factor in many people’s decision to take calcium, it also helps strengthen bones – something which helps increase energy and vitality. It is worth noting that calcium is far more effective when your diet decreases in calories.

Vitamin B Complex

Vitamin B complex refers to the eight B vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9 and B12) that should be an essential inclusion of any diet for those looking to lose weight. These vitamins help to convert food into fuel by optimising and regulating cell metabolism, which is particularly useful for producing energy in low-calorie diets. Although these vitamins work in tandem, each pose specific benefits in keeping our bodies functioning well, so it’s important to consume a healthy balance of vitamin B on a daily basis.

Whilst scientists are incredibly tentative about outright stating that any vitamin definitively provides certain benefits, the above selection of vitamins are all widely and rightly considered by experts to have these benefits. Even scientific studies have found that the above vitamins show strong correlation with weight loss, reduced risk of weight gain and energy boosting.
