Glutamic Acid

What is Glutamic Acid?

Glutamic Acid is a non-essential amino acid. A non-essential amino acid is produced naturally by the body, generally in adequate amounts for most people. Glutamic acid is an important amino acid for the synthesis of proteins. It is required for a healthy immune and digestive system. This amino acid also helps to stimulate many cognitive functions including learning, alertness and long term memory. Glutamic acid is generally produced and stored in muscle tissues. This amino acid is used rapidly during exercise and so is needed for a healthy, active body. Glutamic acid can also be sourced from a number of high protein foods including meat, fish, eggs, beans and lentils. A deficiency in this amino acid can cause insomnia, fatigue and poor concentration.
