Magnesium

What is Magnesium?

Magnesium is a very important mineral that is vital to many of the body’s functions, most notably bone health. This mineral is stored in the bones and organs, where it can be utilized for its many essential functions. Every organ in the body, particularly the heart, kidneys and muscles require magnesium. Magnesium helps keep the strength and firmness of bones. Magnesium is also essential for the absorption of calcium, which is another essential mineral in bone health. This important mineral can be found in a number of foods including leafy green vegetables, whole grains and nuts. However, many factors have a negative impact on magnesium absorption including too much salt, coffee, sugary drinks and alcohol. Medical conditions such as diabetes and irritable bowel syndrome also have a negative effect on magnesium absorption.
