What are Omega Oils?
Omega oils are a vital part of maintaining good health. There are a few different kinds of omega oils to choose from, all with their own benefits. Omega-3 is the most common and well known of the omega oils, but it’s not that straight forward. Omega-3 from fish oils contains lots of EPA and DHA, which have a strong positive effect on the body. They both help to lower the bad kinds of cholesterol whilst increasing the good kind. EPA and DHA have also been shown to improve both memory retention and reaction time when taken on a regular basis. Plant based Omega-3 oils instead contain ALA, an essential fatty acid which cannot be produced internally and must be consumed. ALA is responsible for vital cellular functions, and is most commonly obtained from seed oils like flax and chia, as well as from leafy green vegetables and various nuts. Omega-6 oils are most often linked to joint health, as well as helping you maintain healthy hair and skin. Omega-7 can help to regulate fat levels, signalling the body to stop storing excess fat.
