What is Omega-6?

Omega-6 is a lesser known omega fatty acid when compared to Omega-3, but the effects and uses of it in the body are numerous. It plays an important role in brain function, as well as supporting normal muscle growth and development. One of the components of Omega-6 is arachidonic acid (AA), which is present in the muscles, brain and liver, and necessary for proper maintenance. Omega-6 also promotes healthy hair, skin and bone health. Dietary sources of omega-6 include eggs and poultry, vegetable oils, nut and cereals, so most of us are getting a sufficient amount. It is best to keep your Omega-6 levels one to four times that of omega-3 for optimum health. In cases where you aren't getting sufficient amounts of omega-6, a supplement is the perfect addition to round out your diet.
